We work to create an environment in Washtenaw County where creativity and culture can flourish and the arts are accessible to all.
To realize its mission, the Alliance is committed to support/create projects and services that Communicate - Facilitate - Educate - Advocate - and Celebrate the arts and its community!
History
The Arts Alliance grew out of a county-wide arts summit in 1999, at which 150 arts/cultural and business leaders expressed a strong need for an umbrella organization to support and promote arts and culture throughout Ann Arbor and Washtenaw County. A business plan was prepared, and in 2001 the Arts Alliance was formed with the support of the Ann Arbor Area Chamber of Commerce, which recognizes the critical role arts and culture plays in the quality of life enjoyed by businesses and residents in the area.
Since its founding, the operations of the Arts Alliance have been guided by a volunteer board, with part-time staffing supported by funding from the Chamber. The Arts Alliance is now a separate incorporated entity, and has applied for non-profit status enabling it to receive tax-deductible donations and apply for grants on its own behalf, while still being housed in the Chamber’s offices.
